Firstly the cover caught my eye, making me decide to take a chance on reading a sample. I have to admit never having read any of Jane Casey’s books before but I wasn’t disappointed. When a dismembered hand is washed ashore on the bank of the Thames and subsequent details reveal from a young female, DS Maeve Kerrigan is on the case of who killed Paige Hargreaves , 28 freelance journalist.
I really enjoyed the author’s style of writing which just seemed to flow. There was nothing forced or pretentious.
Maeve is often partnered with DI Josh Derwent, there is more than a suggestion of mutual admiration which could be problematic. The characters were believable on the whole . We hear from a man from two years previously who had a part to play in the unfolding storyline. This will leave the reader guessing as to his identity. Maeve throws herself into the investigation, convinced The Chiron Club is heavily involved. After all , some of the suspects are members of this exclusive gentleman’s club.....
