Once again we're drawn into the world of Maeve Kerrigan and Josh Derwent. The story start with a severed hand found by a mudlarker on the Thames. A couple of other body parts are found and a murder investigation is started. At first they have no means of identifying who the victim is. That soon changes and they need to find to where and why. All the evidence points to the secretive Chiron Club, a members only club which seems to have only the rich and powerful as members. The also shows us some events from two years before and we are left to guess who the person is in those events until much later in the book. Meanwhile, Maeve's relationship with Seth is still ongoing, and he doesn't show his dislike of her colleagues and friends. The feeling is mutual with her colleagues all showing concerns about her boyfriend. Will everything come together?
