The Dark Lake is a thriller novel which had me drawn in right from the beginning. The main story line involves the murder investigation of a much loved school teacher, found facedown in a lake close to the school.
It becomes quite clear right from the beginning that the main character, Detective Sargeant Gemma Woodstock has a huge secret from her past that may hold the key to solving the case.
Woodstock is a complex character which has many secrets relating to both her past and present, creating an air of mystery around her.
As the story unravels there are so many twists and turns revealed along the way that constantly changes the direction in which the case is going and truly left me surprised at the end outcome of the case.
I loved the way that the author approached this novel by jumping between the past and present without causing any great confusion. Allowing the reader to visit events from the past to help better understand how Woodstock’s past links to the case.
