I thoroughly enjoyed this book, it reminded me of a Karin Slaughter novel and I have read all of hers. I could really get engrossed in the story and the various characters who were all complex and flawed. I liked that the story showed how our past is so influential in our future and how the novel went between when Gemma was young and the present.
The novel is set in a small town in Australia and everybody knows everybody else and each other's business. Reading the book I could imagine the various types of people portrayed and really got drawn into the intrigue. I had several ideas as to who had committed the murder but it was not until near the end that I guessed who right, there was nothing obvious.
This is a debut novel, I really hope that Sarah Bailey writes some more stories using the same detective, Gemma Woodstock.
