I received this book from the publisher via Readers First. This in no way effects my opinion on the book.

The Dark Lake is a stunning and almost lyrical debut by Sarah Bailey. I was caught up in its dark charm almost immediately after opening the first page and couldn’t help but read more. It is certainly a page turner of the highest degree. The story follows the investigation of the murder of a women found in a lake covered in roses. This alone reminded me of the song “Where the Wild roses grow” by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and set a melancholy beauty over the entire book for me. I couldn’t not enjoy it’s darkness and charm.

I don’t really know what to say about this book. It’s still processing with me the sheer amount of thoughts and feelings I had whilst reading it. I wouldn’t want to spoil anything for another reader by over discussing it. What I can say is that I would recommend it several times over.
