Gemma Woodstock is a detective in a small Australian town. A beautiful young teacher has been murdered and left covered in flowers in Sonny Lake. This murder forms the backbone of the book with the plot lines intertwined around it.
A tragedy in Gemma’s childhood has stayed with her and she seems not to be able to deal with it. She is married with a small child but is heavily involved with her partner which seems to get in the way of her professional life. Although having a good track record of solving cases there are still problems with other misogynistic Australian detectives.
This is the authors debut novel and is a competent thriller but is perhaps too long as I found it hard going in places. It’s worth reading but I cannot enthusiastically recommend it.
