This is one of my favourite books I have read this year and will most definitely be going on my bookshelf to read again one day. The book follows a two parts a chapter method, flicking from the past to the dinner happening in the present. How Serle wrote this is just oh so clever and I wept at the end. The penultimate chapter is so heartbreaking and you wish it wouldn't end that way but the final chapter shows the growth that Sabrina has just over the course of a night when she has almost been stagnant for a decade. Sabrina is somewhat immature, which is referenced several times within the book, about her relationship with Tobias and I think this is a charming and realistic trait, love can do that to people and you want to believe in fate and although you ultimately know the outcome of this book, like Sabrina, you will find yourself hoping that further magic will prevent what is to be. The pacing never feels slow and it's a truly magical read. I'm looking forward to reading more books by Serle. Although all opinions of this book are my own I would like to thank ReadersFirst and Allen & Unwin for this advanced copy.
