The premise of this book is deceptively simple. Essentially it takes a typical conversation starter (i.e. If you could have dinner with any five people, living or dead, who would they be and why?) and plays that scenario out over the course of a novel. However, I was surprised by just how effectively the author used this framework to build such an intricate and interesting story!
The book follows the main character Sabrina over the course of a crazy night where the five people she chose actually show up to dinner. The guests are certainly varied - Audrey Hepburn even makes an appearance - but in some way each of the guests has had a significant impact on Sabrina's life, and this is really what this book is about. I enjoyed learning each character's importance as I read through the book, and it definitely made me think long and hard about how I would answer the question myself in future.
