I like that its quite descriptive - I could imagine myself as Mafalda. Its obviously quite sad due to what happens but her childhood innocence, elements of naivety and curiosity show through, with her parents sentimentality clearly evident also. This must be a bittersweet read - an interesting one in as much as its hard to imagine how such a young person could cope with losing such a vital sense but ultimately I can well imagine its one of those reads that leaves you feeling both sad for the girl and also grateful that (presumably) you, as the reader, haven't had to go through what she has.
