Written in the first person , from the view of the child, the opening is powerful and instantly warms you to this vulnerable child.
It brings up the unfairness of life; the why me ? This has the effect of making, me as the reader, feel rather silly about my own trivial worries.
The relationship that is described between the child and her parents is beautiful, warm and loving and sounds perfect in every way with the exception of this huge , dark cloud that looms over them. Books and stories play a large part in this child's life yet we now she will never read to her own children.
It cleverly describes how a child might deal with such difficult news and the need to feel safe. It gives insight into the power of a child's imagination and it's importance when tackling issues that are too big to understand
