The Distance Between Me and the Cherry Tree is a relatively short ‘novel’ written from the point of view of a 10-year old girl who is slowly going blind (which she refers to as ‘darkness’), from a rare and incurable disease. The time frame of this story leads us through this period in Mafalda’s life.

Mafalda tells her story in both a childlike and mature way, which I think will entice different age groups of people to enjoy reading this book – being in my early 30’s myself, I enjoyed reading this Young Adult novel.

The cover is both intriguing, interesting and very telling. It’s a clever cover and top marks that for alone.

I was very surprised to read at the end, that this book was written with the authors own experiences in mind.
