I love this introduction. It makes it clear the disease that Mafalda has and explains what will happen but as if it were in a 9-year-olds mind. It is realistic and because the author has dealt with Stargardt's disease very well portrays the process of this. It actually says the effects of this, such as the protagonist having to learn braille.
What I think is amazing is that the author doesn't make it seem like something that only happens to older people; it is vividly real with the effects it has on Mafalda and those around her which can be quite emotional. The links to the title are obvious and everything about how the tree is described, especially the feelings it brings, is absolutely beautiful.
This book is 100% worth reading, even just the introduction on here, and another thing I love is that it isn't too wordy or anything like that.
Simple and effective to a T.
