What a simply lovely book, although very sad in places too. The writing reflects our heroine's 10 year old voice and you soon get drawn into a very simple story. I don't want to give anything away but the condition Mafalda suffers from is something I'd never heard of; a horrible position for a youngster to be in.
The author has experience of the condition herself so the story is very much close to her heart, you can feel it in every sentence.
The family and friends are also wonderful characters and there are some funny moments to alleviate the sadness.
I think this book would appeal to young and adults. There's something very magical about the story and the cherry tree plays a big part! I do hope Paola writes more books as she writes so well! An easy read but full of joy and sadness too.
