I thought from the description of the book that I would feel interested in the fantasy world/magical elements of it but my optimism disappeared when I read the opening chapters! I found the dialogue far too forced, as though the author was attempting to include all the eighteenth century words she had discovered through her research into that period. Sadly, not a book which appeals to me.
