Even though this book was definitely well written, interesting, and had amazing central characters that really brought the story to life, the writing style and the themes created a book that just, unfortunately, wasn't completely for me.
I enjoyed the fantastical elements, and the diversity shown in the writing (and the characters), but I felt that the book focused too much on the romance element, and would have been better off as a fantasy/magic focused novel. It read a little too much like children's fiction to be completely engaging for me, which is why I rated it lower than I perhaps would have for a similar story.
Overall, I did enjoy the writing style, and I found elements of the plot engaging, but the focus on the romance and the childish nature of the novel just didn't create a story I was fully on board with.
