The opening chapters, written in the first person, immediately drew me into the story giving a strong sense of the narrator's sadness and desperation at being childless. By the way, what a great name for a character is Fleetwood Shuttleworth! I liked the air of mystery created by her encounter with the 'golden eyed' stranger in the forest. The location, period setting and backdrop of witchcraft and witch trials is immediately appealing to this fan of historical fiction. The author has crafted some great opening chapters that make me want to read on and the cover is simply gorgeous!
