The Familiars feels quite similar to books I have read in the past, but the twist of witchcraft throws in an unusual element of mystery and danger.
The cover is beautiful and the first few chapters are equal parts beautiful and horrid. The author doesn't shy away from using all of their descriptive power to both shock and intrigue.
