the cover of the book is absolutely beautiful and the blurb is really interesting too. i'm from lancashire, so immediately, i was interested as there aren't many i've never read a book that features a protagonist from here. the writing is very descriptive, the similes are unique and there's something very northern about the protagonist writes.
her first encounter with the woman by the woods is intriguing, it's strange to see how her demeanor changes and how she asserts her authority within an instant. the rabbit's foot being mentioned first is also symbolic.
it's heartbreaking to read about the drawer in the house where she's kept the gifts that richard had bought for the children she lost in miscarriages, and the way she seems to blame herself is upsetting. i think it's also interesting that she first describes richard and his love for his money in the first sentence.
when roger says something about not being able to trust women with black hair, fleetword responds that she has black hair and perhaps that's foreshadowing? anyway, i'm excited to find out what happens in the book and hope fleetwood and her husband could have a baby.
