The Familiars by Stacey Halls is a great different way at approaching the storyline of witchcraft. I adore Stacey Halls writing style, its exactly the style I like to read! The protagonist, Fleetwood Shuttleworth, finds a letter that her husband has kept from her informing him that is she falls pregnant again she will not live through giving birth.
Fleetwood has given birth three times before, all of the babies died.
She is upset about the letter so she runs into the forest to let out her feelings without anyone seeing, when she sees a woman crouching down near some dead rabbits, putting them in her sack.
Fleetwood questions her but the woman runs away before the protagonist can get any answers from her.
When her husband richard gets back to change to go hunting she wants to tell him that she found the letter but she couldn't.
There is a bit where they go hunting, which I am not keen on because I don't agree with stuff like that but since it was in a novel it wasn't as bad.
While on the hunt a man named roger, who was with her and Richard, told her the story of a witch who cursed a man.
Overall I really enjoyed this First look, The cover is amazing and it is written beautifully.
