I was immediately drawn to this book as not only is the main character's name that of a local fishing port but Gawthorpe Hall is a mere 6 or so miles from my home. So close indeed that it is beloved by local Primary Schools for a school trip or two for the younger students. Mix this in with the Pendle Witches Legends and you have something very interesting to a Lancashire woman.

The opening pages of this book are quite tantalising and Fleetwood Shuttleworth sounds so much older than her years - although 17 in the early 17th Century was probably nearing 30 would be now. I was pleased that the language is resolutely modern - I have had Historical fiction spoilt in the past by an attempt to replicate the English tongue as it would have been spoken.

I am looking forward to reading this book when published.
