I must admit that if I had been browsing the bookshelf I wouldn't have picked it up as I thought the cover was too flowery and fussy for my taste and would have wrongly assumed the book would not have appealed to me. How wrong I was! I loved the central character and the seventeenth century era that it is set it. I found the story engaging and compelling from the outset.
