I have been looking forward to The Familiars since it was announced. I'm really pleased to see that my hopes for this novel have not been quashed.

The prose is beautiful, truly delicate and not overly ornamental -- it reminds me a lot of Sarah Perry's The Essex Serpent, and there are elements that conjure Sophie Mackintosh's The Water Cure as well (possibly the gore!).

I'm intrigued by Fleetwood's character -- not every woman would go hunting while possibly dangerously pregnant.

I'm really keen to see where the novel goes, and to follow Fleetwood's adventures with the witches.
