"It is with excessive importance that you understand if she finds herself once more in childbed, she will not survive it, and her earthly life will come to an end."

First things first; I love a map in a book. I feel it really immerses you in the world as it gives you a visual representation of what the world you are reading about, looks like. The cover itself is also stunning, and really draws the readers eye.

I can't help but feel sorry for Fleetwood; desperately wanting a child but learning that if she falls pregnant again she will but surely die. For this information to be shared with her husband, but not with her seems disturbing and unfair. Even moreso is the fact that he is keeping this information from her, and encouraging another pregnancy. I don't generally read historical fictions, but this definitely sounds intriguing. Would love to read more.
