The outside of the book is beautiful and made me want to find out if the inside was as good. The opening chapters certainly indicates that that it is. Already I have so many questions, not least is Fleetwood's husband so desperate for a child that he will risk his wife's death. My first impression is that Fleetwood will be someone with whom readers will fall in love and want to see her win the day. I suspect that as well as a fascinating plot, the reader will also learn a lot about the history of the time, and certainly that of the Pendle witches. The title is a clever play on words and the cover hints that there is darkness within the beauty of the woods. Tantalising.
