I was very impressed with this novel. I've always been fascinated with magic and the historical implications of witch trials for women. This book really delves into what it was like for women to be accused of being witches, the impact it likely had on the innocent women who didn't do anything wrong but were labelled as witches anyway. The way Halls writes is great, it's quite poetic but also doesn't ramble on at the same time. The relationship between the two main women, Alice and Fleetwood, really blossoms and you find yourself wanting to keep reading after each chapter just so you know what will happen! At the same time, you also learn a lot about Lancashire and the past as many of the main events in the books are based on real events, such as the witch trials in the Lancashire in the 1700s. The front cover of the book is also so pretty to look at! I'd recommend anyone to try to grab their hands on a physical copy. I think this is a book that everyone should read and will be likely to read it again in the future.
