I bought this book because I had read the first look and needed to find out what happened. The art work on the cover is beautiful and I couldn't put it down until I had finished. The book looks at how women were treated in the 1600s from noble women to peasant women. It really highlights how terrifying it would have been to go through pregnancy and childbirth in those times and how much pressure there was to produce an heir. The witchcraft element of the book is fascinating and based on real events. I was worried that it might get too dark but there was just enough mystery about the familiar spirits without the book getting creepy. The book explores the way the witches were accused and the ulterior motives for arresting them. There are lots of little twists and turns along the way and I really couldn't guess how it would turn out but the ending was really good.
