After reading The Foundling, which is the author’s second book, I was so enthralled by it that I had to pick up The Familiars. Both books are very much outside of my usual go-to genre, and yet the author’s colourful and atmospheric writing absorbs you into the story so much that you simply cannot put the book down. It just goes to show that shouldn’t limit yourself to what you’re used to reading. I particularly loved how the story of motherhood was intertwined with the Pendle witch trials. It made for a very interesting read. Not only is the story amazing, but the cover to match it is absolutely beautiful. I look forward to the author’s future releases which I will pick up without a doubt! If you’re hesitant about picking this up, just do it it’s so good!
