As a keen reader of historical fiction, The Familiars by Stacey Halls did not disappoint. I am interested in witch trials, and it was brilliant to find a book that was set in England with this as the central theme.

This book is well researched and is written from an innocent perspective with a sweet tone, making it a pleasurable read. The plot is very easy to follow, but does come with some unexpected twists and has well developed character profiles. The protagonist, Fleetwood, is particularly interesting, and her story is genuinely heart breaking. I found myself caring very deeply for this character and her fate, which shows how well Stacey Halls can write and develop a character and story line.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves historical fiction, particularly those who are interested in witchcraft in general.
