Fleetwood Shuttleworth is seventeen. And pregnant. And married. The last three babies haven't made it, so she needs prayers (and maybe some magic) to survive.

I really loved The Foundling by Stacey Halls, so I had very high hopes for this one. It didn't disappoint me!

Historical fiction has always been a favourite of mine so I'm extremely glad that I'm finding so many amazing authors.

The fact this covered the Pendle Witch Trials was fascinating. It's not a time period I've ever been invested in before, but I'd like to discover more.

The enforced gender roles shown throughout showed how difficult it was to be a woman in that time. Everyone was out to get you if you didn't conform to their 'normal' and way of living. I was also midly horrifed with how the main character - Fleetwood - was referred to during pregnancy and the odd customs and practices 'normal' women used.

I enjoyed the story (and was glad of the happy ending) and liked the characters that were brought in. There was some drip-feeding of the past throughout that kept me wanting more.

I read it fairly quickly, despite the size.
