The Familiars was the first historical fiction book that I had read in a while and I'm so glad I did, the first thing that caught my eye was how beautiful the cover design was, I loved the colours that were used.

The book followed a character called Fleetwood who is pregnant for the fourth time all of the previous pregnancies have ended with Fleetwood childless. During the book she crosses path with Alice and hires her as her midwife. The only thing is Alice is caught up in witchcraft accusations through the town.

I loved the way Fleetwood was portrayed as a really headstrong woman it was great to have a strong female character who did as she wished. I loved seeing her go against her husbands demands. I really enjoyed seeing the relationship between Fleetwood and Alice develop through the book aswell and I loved how much you could feel Fleetwood cared for Alice past just her role as her midwife.

All in all I cannot wait too read more work from Stacey Halls.
