I enjoyed this book a lot and the writing reminded me a lot of Jessie Burton. I always enjoy historical novels and I liked finding out at the end that the characters named in the book were once real people, even though the story itself is fiction. I'd never heard specifically of the Pendle witches but was aware of witch hunts that used to take place back in those times. I loved the dynamic between Fleetwood and Alice and how they were really sparky females in a very male dominated world.
I felt that I wished for more information/ explanation about 'the familiars', I think I wanted more on the witchcraft side of things. And the ending felt a bit tidy for me, but I guess actually in those days being a woman, Fleetwood wouldn't have had options open to her to leave her husband and shun her mother for turning a blind eye to the abuse she endured as a child.
I'll definitely look out for more novels by this author and my final comment is that I really loved the book cover!
