This Historical Fiction book is the story of a noble woman who is desperate to hold onto her pregnancy after the precious miscarriages she has endured. Set in the time of the witch trials, the protagonist finds solace in a medicine woman whose past is running after her. High tension and questioning are littered through this book.
Having lived in both Cumbria and Lancashire I’m very familiar with the Pendle Witch trials so I was overjoyed to find an historical fiction centred around them. Although witches aren’t the main focus of this book, it demonstrates the thinking of the era, the hysteria and the power struggles. I also get such a thrill out of books that mention places I’m so familiar with. If you love historical fiction, books about witches, the 1600s or just a well written story then I would highly recommend this book.
