This book was nothing at all like I expected in the best way possible; I could not put it down. It was a pleasure to read. The story follows Fleetwood during her pregnancy, following a number of miscarriages. This is enhanced with the complexities of the time and the Pendle witch trials make it a compelling read.
One of the key elements I love is how the relationships develop and change throughout the story.
The relationship of Fleetwood with her midwife who is accused of witchcraft. The relationship with the husband she adores, but who is anything but perfect. The relationship with her neighbour, the fatherly figure who is not who he seems. And finally the relationship with her mother who appears neglectful and cruel.
A read recommended for all.
