I finished this book in less than twenty four hours, and if it weren't for the responsibilities of every day life, I could have devoured it in one sitting.

Fleetwood Shuttleworth's story is captivating, her bravery and tenacity uncommon for a woman of her social standing and during this era. Halls' writing makes you leave the book feeling as though Fleetwood is a close friend, and all the way through you are rooting for her success. The story has many twists and turns, leaving you constantly impressed by Fleetwood and Alice's resilience and intelligence. Refusing to be silenced by the men who try to control her, Fleetwood Shuttleworth tells a beautiful story of sisterhood and strength.

Halls' research into the history of the Pendle witch trials is clearly deep, and the story has left me with a thirst to find out more about the history of the women in the story, and the systems meant for protection that failed them.

I cannot recommend this book enough.
