I loved this book, from beginning to end I was hooked. The way Stacey Halls writes really draws you in and makes you feel for (nearly) every single character even when you know they have done wrong. Each character is expertly described and developed even down to Puck, the dog.

I love the historical aspect, especially after reading that a lot of the characters, places and events were historically accurate. I often find it quite tedious and hard to read books that are focussed on historical events, but the way Halls has developed her own narrative to accompany the actual events kept the book flowing and a joy to read.

There are a number of large issues that Halls tackles throughout the book as well, from having a female lead in a male orientated world, the juxtaposition between the life of a member of the gentry and the life of a poor girl and how they can intertwine, and not to mention the controversial witch trials that run the entire way through the book.

Thoroughly enjoyed and will definitely be re-reading in the future. Can't wait to read more from Stacey Halls.
