Interesting tale set amongst the shadow of the Pendle witch trials. The location and era in which this book is set is a character in its own right.

Filled with a low tension of folk horror, the novel almost hums with Fleetwoods desperation and anxiety. In an age where women were met with suspicion, conformity and obedience was nervewracking.

Halls captures that moment in time and delivers a masterpiece of other worldly charms. The main characters are fleshed out and intriguing, I find it hard to believe that the novel is a work of fiction and not based on a historical biographies.

Thoroughly enjoyed the familiars and would definitely recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys novels out of the ordinary.
