This story was slow to start but then had me hooked. The style of writing was eloquent but intriguing. Fleetwood, the main character, was relatable and unlike in some stories you could agree and appreciate her actions. I don’t usually like historical stories, but this one was interesting to consider the complexities and struggles for woman in previous centuries and how marriages and inheritance worked. It touched well onto the insecurities about witchcraft and the trials on those times without being too supernatural or judgemental. This was definitely a different type of book than I would usually go for but I would recommend anyone to give it a go. I would be keen to read other books from this author also as I really enjoyed their style of writing. I would give this book four stars as although I was hooked it wouldn’t be something I would go back to.
