I am a big fan of historical fiction, especially anything relating to witch trials so I knew I would enjoy this too.
Although the story isn't heavily based on fact the characters are real historical figures and elements of the plot are drawn from truth which makes this story all the more thrilling and at times upsetting. Stacey Halls has clearly done her research into the time period as well which makes a huge difference.
Having said this book is historical fiction, it is much more than that. It is a brave and bold exploration of our place and identity in the world as women; as friends, as mothers, as wives and as individuals. It pays tribute to the hardships women have faced and continue to feel the impact of even in today's society.
This book would make a great gift for any reader, lover of historical fiction or supporter of girl power! Worth a read.
