I am not a huge fan of historical fiction, and do not usually read this genre, however I am a huge fan of magical books. So enticed by the beaitiful cover I decided to give The Familiars a go. I was not disappointed.
Set in the Seventeenth Century the story follows the pregnancy of Fleetwood (my new favourite name) Shuttleworth amidst the Pendle witch trials.
The book twists and turns in its quest for truth amidst love, lies, betrayal and friendship.
Fleetwood Shuttleworth is on a mission to clear the name of Alice Grey (her friend and midwife) and in doing so hopes to save both their lives.
Wonderfully atmospheric and hard to put down. Based on real people and events brought to life in a wonderful book.
