I was not sure about reading this book at first as it was about witches but I am so glad I did.
Firstly the book itself and how its presented.
Part of my enjoyment in reading is a pristine hard back that delights the eye and senses. This has certainly fulfilled this. The cover is highlighted in gold leaves and the book itself has a beautifully decorated spine. Inside the front cover are green leaves and a red fox. The back contains extra information which is a nice touch.
I was half way through the story when a program was broadcast-ed on the Saturday evening entitled "Digging Up Britain's Past". Helen Skelton and Alex Langlands investigate the Pendle Witch trials of 1612.
Suddenly I recognized the places and names of these witches and the story I was reading came alive.
It is about a young wife who is desperate to save the baby she is expecting and how another poor young women helps her with local knowledge and herbs. Then how in turn Fleetwood tries to help her young midwife Alice Grey.
Its a story that is difficult to put down and proves to be such an interesting read.
