I loved everything about this book. The main character Fleetwood shuttleworth is so interesting to me as half of her seems to be completely defying the ideas of the stereotypical woman in 17th century Britain but at the same time her longing to fit right into this for her husband, Richard, evoked pity in me throughout. I feel as though the characters have a perfect amount of depth to them with very realistic sets of traits which really helps to make a reader feel as though they are living through all of this alongside them.

The plot of this book was also wonderful to make my way through. Stacey Halls did a brilliant job of giving the reader an insight to what the witch trials were really like whilst also giving us turns for the worst to uncover at the perfect pace. Although we seem to share some heartwarming moments between Fleetwood and Alice, these are matched with events that will really stir up some sadness. Futhermore, I think we readers feel Fleetwoods desperation throughout with her which makes this book even harder to put down.

Overall, to me, this book was perfect. The characters and some of their pasts being very interesting to get to know, the perfect pace, the historical accuracy, the tension, the turns, the ending, all contributed to making The Familiars one of my favourite books i have read so far this year.
