This is a well written book about a time in history that I know little about. The character of Fleetwood spoke to me because she is a strong character. The character of Alice annoyed me a little because you didn’t get much information about her, and a lot of questions were raised. I like the fact that she agrees to help Fleetwood with her pregnancy. The Pendle witch trials are something I know little about and after reading this book I feel I know a bit more about them without having to research what they are. The ending also annoyed me a little bit because usually at the ending you expect to be presented with all the answers to your questions and instead this one was left as a bit of a mystery which works well for the book, however is not something I particularly like. At the time this book is set, men were very restrictive and controlling of their wives, and it’s interesting to read about the 1600s, when this book was set, because it’s wildly different to now.
