So I was drawn into “The Familars” initially by the stunning cover, the image does not do the book justice upon its arrival I saw the beautiful detail of the illustrations and it was embossed in so many places and looks beautiful now on my book shelf.

The plot really drew me in as I’ve always been intrigued by witchcraft and the history of the trials and the stories of those accused.

Within the story I found the character Fleetwood a very erratic character and at times it was hard understanding the reasoning behind her actions. The parts of the book that the pace was a bit to slow for myself was during the moments Fleetwood was alone and reflecting upon her life and her potential future with her future child.

The interactions with other characters was truly were the book came to life. The character of Alice was for me the true beauty within this book such a mysterious but fully realised character. It was a shame some of the other characters were not as realised.

I did enjoy the book and finished it in two days it was just some of the pacing and character development that let me down at times.
