I really enjoyed this one. I was slightly late off the mark with reading it and actually read a sample of the authors second book first. Having enjoyed that, I bought a copy of The Familiars whilst I waited for the second book to be released, and was not disappointed.

A historical fiction with a witchy twist - but you never actually find out if Alice was meant to be a witch or just accused of being. That adds a lovely element to the book as the reader is left with the opportunity to make their own impression.

I enjoy historical fiction which is loosely based on the past but embellished with characters who are not real, rather than retellings of history Which turn real people into works of fiction. This book hit that mark spot on. I found myself quickly picking the book up again after putting it down and was very much invested in the characters. I definitely still want to read other books by this author.
