This is the first novel by the author Stacey Halls and wow, I need more. Historical fiction is not my go to genre but this intrigued me; witches do that to me.
Set in Lancashire, this wonderful work of fiction touches on the true life events of the time when women were accused of witchcraft and were executed without evidence.
The story tells the tale of the 2 main characters, both strong women, and their bond and friendship that grows as each helps the other, 1 by giving her employment and therefore a wage to survive and the other medicinal care to help her keep her baby after a serious of losses.
The cover is stunning, a rich mix of colours.
Stacey Halls is a beautiful writer and her descriptive text of the lancashire countryside made me homesick.
The story builds to its dramatic final chapters without feeling rushed and stayed with me for the days to come.
