This was a fantastic read. Full of twists and turns, and imaginative and original whilst still holding true to the real life history behind it (the Pendle witch trials). All of the characters, particularly the main protagonists Fleetwood and Alice, were really well developed and had a real sense of humanity to them which made it so easy to fall into their story and understand their emotions. As soon as I finished it I just had to know more about the Pendle witch trials, which as a history graduate is truly the mark of a good book for me! The Familiars well and truly sucked me in and I had finished it in no time. Bonus point for the pretty cover, too. Really looking forward to Stacey Hall's next book.
