This was the first Stacey Halls novel I read and I can say I was not disappointed at all. I have never read much Historical Fiction, but since reading the Familiars I definitely want to read more.
The Familiars is set in 17th Century Lancashire, the novel shows true events of that time, including how woman were often accused of witchcraft and executed.
The story is of a woman called Fleetwood Shuttleworth and her troubles getting pregnant along with her naivety due to the fact she is very young. Alice Grey is a witch who has come into Fleetwood's life to help her, the story is of their friendship and the strong bond which they have, along side the struggles of society at that time.
I absolutely love the cover of this book; the variety of colours, the hidden items, the whole picture draws you in.
