Do you enjoy novels based on true events..?
.
The Familiars by @staceyhallsauthor
.
Other than the obvious beauty of the cover, the story itself was gripping with a dark, atmospheric feel to it and so wonderfully written
.
Based on true events of the 17th Century Pendle Hill Witch trials.
The story follows 17 year old noblewoman Fleetwood Shuttleworth, who is married to Richard. She’s now mistress of Gawthorpe Hall and so expected to provide an Heir for her husband. But unfortunately all her pregnancies end in miscarriages.
.
During her 4th pregnancy she discovers her husband is acting strangely secretive.
Fleetwood becomes lonely and likes to take off on her horse and disappear into the woods along with her beloved dog at her side just to escape for a while
.
One day whilst out riding she comes across a girl on her land. A stranger, who later plays a huge part in Fleetwoods life. She is a ‘midwife’, of sorts, who has secrets of her own...
.
Allegations of witchcraft are thrown around by the local authorities and all I’m saying is that it gets pretty tense!
.
The Familiars is one of my favourite reads of the year so far. It’s delightfully creepy, whitchy, and goes to show that forever friendships can develop in the strangest of circumstances.
And did I mention it’s based on TRUE WITCHY EVENTS..🤔😁
