Pleasantly surprising
I did not think I was going to enjoy this book. It is not my usual genre. But I was pleasantly surprised.
The first part of the book felt a bit slow to me. There was too much ‘character building’ which I didn’t think was necessary. However parts 2, 3 and 4 gripped me.
Fleetwood is a likeable character. She is only 17 but wise beyond her years. We think kids these days grow up quick...
Richard annoyed me. He was the definition of a male pig. The sort of man you wouldn’t want your daughter marrying in my opinion. Looking to get what he wanted no matter the cost.
I love the witchy aspect. I have read about the Pendle witch trials in the past so I really enjoyed these parts.
I am glad for the most part, there was a happy ending. At one point I didn’t think there would be.
I am not sure how historically correct this was (not just the Pendle witch part but the other references and how they loved), but I felt like it transported me there which is always a good thing.
