As a history graduate I absolutely adore a good historical fiction book especially those with non fiction characters and a real life setting and this book did not disappoint.
Firstly the book cover is stunning and instantly grabbed my attention. Great start.
I have to admit the start of the book was slow to get going but by that evening I was hooked! The author writes with emotion and a kindness towards all her characters which echoes throughout.
There were a number of twists and turns. Some obvious and some more subtle but all very entertaining.
A focus on female independence in a time of oppression definitely echoes modern issues in a historical context and feels very empowering for the main characters to be all female rather than of a typical knight on a white horse tale.
Cannot wait to read more by this author.
